Weeds

Weeds

  1. Bindii
Bindii is a low growing weed with carrot-top like leaves, that produces a single flower at its centre. When mature, it produces a prickly seed pod that can become easily stuck in your feet, thus becoming the weed that everyone hates.
  2. Broadleaf /Flat Weeds
Dandelion, lamb’s tongue, chickweed, plantain, dock, cat’s ear, just to name a few, are some common broadleaf weeds found in lawns and gardens.
  3. Capeweed
Capeweed is an autumn/winter germinating, stemless, rosette forming annual herb with broad, deeply lobed, succulent, leaves 30-250 mm long that have white furry hairs underneath and form a dense rosette.
  4. Clover
This perennial weed is a plant that is either loves or hated by homeowners
  5. Dandelions
While children may make wishes on the fuzzy heads of these perennial pests, gardener’s and lawn enthusiasts tend to curse the little yellow flowers of the dandelion when they appear, and for good reason.
  6. Oxalis
Oxalis is a perennial weed recognised by its heart-shaped leaflets found 3 per leaf that resemble clover. It produces 1/2 inch long yellow flowers with five petals from spring through summer. Oxalis is a weed in greenhouses, container ornamentals, landscapes, and lawns.
  7. Paspalum
Paspalum can be a very difficult weed to kill in lawns, and continues to be one of the most hated weeds in the country. Once established in a lawn it has the ability to grow low and beneath lawn mower blades, enabling it to continue spreading unchecked.
  8. Thistles
In mown lawns it produces flat low leaves in a rosette. As the leaves are prickly they can make walking barefoot or lying on the lawn a painful experience.
