Problem Solver > Roses > Two Spotted Mites

The two spotted mite is the most common of all plant mite pests. It is easy to identify because of the 2 spots on its back. These spots can be seen with a magnifying glass and can vary in colour from green to red to purple. Populations thrive in hot, dry weather, so under these conditions, watch your plants closely as these mites can creep up on you.

Plant damage from a two spotted mite is quite easy to identify. Leaves have a bronzing appearance, and significant distortion can occur to the leaf buds and flowers. When mite numbers are high, fine webbing can be seen on the plants, as well as cast exoskeletons that look like white flecks. This can also cause defoliation of the affected parts of the plant.
