Problem Solver > Azaleas > Scale Insects

Scale insects vary dramatically in appearance; some are very small organisms (1–2 mm) that grow beneath wax covers (some shaped like oyster shells, others like mussel shells), to shiny pearl-like objects (about 5 mm), to creatures covered with mealy wax.

Symptoms-
Scale appears as white patches on the stems or as pink or brown raised dome like structures on the leaves and stalks about 3-5mm. Sooty mould grows on the honeydew that the scale insects secrete. Scan can cause death of stems if the infestation is heavy.
