Coir Seed Raising Mix
- Description
-
Details
Coir is the planting media of the future. It has amazing air filled porosity, excellent water retention, helps plants grow faster and bigger and is free from soil diseases. Coir is extracted from the outer husk of coconuts which is a 100% renewable resource and encourages up to 50% less water over the life of the plant.
Brunnings Seed Raising Mix Coir Block is a concentrated premium-grade coir planting mix containing Slow Release Fertiliser. This Coir creates an ideal seed raising mix because it helps seeds stay moist in hot weather, while keeping the soil temperature higher in the colder months. It has a high water-holding capacity, so that when it takes in water, it holds it around the seeds, cuttings and on garden beds longer.

Sowing seed in containers:
Fill container with Coir Mix, level off and lightly firm down. Water thoroughly and allow to drain. Sow seeds thinly and evenly. Place clear polythene or a sheet of glass over the top and maintain correct temperature for germination. Uncover when seeds start to germinate. Place in good but not direct sunlight. Water when the surface of the mix feels dry to touch.
Outdoor sowing:
Make shallow furrows in the soil. Place 2cm of Coir-Mix in the bottom of the furrows and water. Sow the seed as directed, cover with Coir-Mix and firm down gently. Water sparingly until germination occurs.
Cuttings:
Fill containers in same way as for seed. Make holes in the mix with the end of pencil, push cutting in, firm gently and water. To create a humid environment place a large, clear polythene bag over the top of them. When well rooted, pot the cuttings in a suitable Brunnings Potting Mix.
